OBITUARY - EDNA (DOBLE) POLAND Submitted by: Jan Redelsperger, jansperger at gmail dot com Source: "Longview Daily News," Longview, Cowlitz Co., Washington, October 1942 Mrs. Edna Poland, Pioneer Resident, Laid to Rest The funeral of Mrs. Edna Poland, 71, member of one of Cowlitz County’s best known Pioneer families and a resident of Carrolls for nearly 50 years, who died late Thursday, was held Saturday afternoon from the Central Christian Church with Rev. W. L. Kingen, pastor, officiating. Six nephews served as pallbearers. They were Merton and C. J. Patterson, Lou and Wilbert Doble, and Lou and Ray Mooney. Burial was in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. Mrs. Poland was a member of the Doble family, who located in the Mt. Pleasant district in the early 1890's. She was born at Sac City, Iowa, July 31, 1871. She made her home at Carrolls for a number of years and then the family moved to Kelso. Her husband, Judge George A. Poland, was Kelso justice of the peace and police judge and a member of the local school board for many years. They had resided recently at 2116 ˝ Ocean Beach Highway. She was an active member of the Central Christian Church and had been a member of St. Helens Rebekah Lodge during most of her residence here. In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roy Watson, Kelso, and Jeanne Poland, Seattle; two sons, Wayne, San Bruno, Calif., and Loyd A., Longview; five grandchildren; her twin sister, Mrs. Ethel Paterson, Kelso; two other sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Patton, Kelso, and Mrs. E. Griswold, Mt. Pleasant, and a brother, Ernest Doble, Mt Pleasant.
