OBITUARY - EDWIN PERCIVAL JENKINS Submitted by: Jan Redelsperger, jansperger at gmail dot com Source: "The Daily News," Longview, Cowlitz Co., Washington, February 3, 1931, p 1:6 RESIDENT OF COUNTY SINCE 1879 PASSES Death Claims Edwin Percival Jenkins at Kelso last Night: Widow, Three Children Survive Death took another long-time pioneer resident of Cowlitz county last night when Edwin Percival Jenkins, who came to the county in 1879, passed away at his home, 406 South Fourth Street. Mr. Jenkins had been in poor health for about a year and became more seriously ill three weeks ago. He would have been 68 years of age February 13. Funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian Church in Kelso at two o’clock on Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. A. W. Bartholomew officiating. Interment will be in the I O O F Cemetery. The remains are now at the Nat Smith funeral home. The deceased is survived by his widow, who is a sister of George Poland of Kelso; two sons, Eugene Jenkins, Kelso, and Ray of Corvallis; a daughter, Mrs. Harry Grice of Portland; a grandson, Robert Jenkins, Kelso, and one sister, Mrs. A. O. McKenzie, Kalama. Mr. Jenkins was born in Estherville, IA. on February 13, 1863, the son of George and Adelia Jenkins. The family moved to Portland in 1873 and in 1879 Jenkins came to Carrolls. In 1906 he moved to Kelso and operated a livery stable there for six years. During most of his residence in the county he was farming. He married Eunice Belle Poland on January 1, 1890. The deceased was a member of the Woodmen of the World. He joined at Kalama as a charter member.
