Ruthford, 84, a resident of the Hickson community near Sedro-Woolley, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 1989, at United General Hospital. She was born May 4, 1904, in Carolls, Cowlitz County, a daughter of the late James E. and Maude Poland. She was a Kelso High School graduate and had attended Bellingham Normal School, now Western Washington University. She married Gest. C. Ruthford on Nov. 5, 1924, in Burlington. Mrs. Ruthford had been employed as a bookkeeper for many years by Hub Transfer Co. in Burlington. She retied in 1966. She was a member of the Episcopal Church; past worthy matron of Holly Chapter No. 199, Order of Eastern Star, Burlington; and a member of Hatasu Temple No. 1, Daughters of the Nile, Seattle. She is survived by her husband; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Richard Anderson of Mount Vernon and Joan and William Vance of Seattle; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard G. Ruthford of Bellingham and John E. “Jack” Woodland, Wash, and Geraldine Ruthford of Sedro-Woolley; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Edwards of Seattle; and one brother, James Poland of Woodland, Wash.
