OBITUARY - DONALD JOHN WEEKS Submitted by: Vikki, VGDriver1 at aol dot com Source: "Lewis River News," Woodland, Cowlitz Co., WA, Thursday, 28 Aug, 1958 WEEKS FUNERAL IS FRIDAY MORNING Funeral services will be held for Donald John Weeks, 67, at the Woodland Christian Church Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Clifford Bethune officiating. Burial will be at Williamette National Cemetery in Portland. Weeks, who has been a dairyman on the Woodland Bottoms since 1958, died in an ambulance en route to Barnes Hospital Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 26, following a short illness. Week was born in Oilwein, Iowa, Feb. 2, 1891. He entered the Merchant Marine prior to World War I and served in the Navy during World War I, remaining in the naval reserves and returning to active service in the Merchant Marine, he was commissioned a lieutenant commander in 1934. He served in the navy again during World War II and was discharged in 1945. Mr. and Mrs. Weeks had made their home here since 1932 when they purchased the present farm which was operated until 1945 by Mrs. Weeks and her two brothers, Otto Woelfel of Woodland and Herman Woelfel of Tacoma. Weeks was serving his eighth year as diking supervisor, four years in the 1940Ős including the 1948 flood period. He was a member of the VFW Post no. 1927, and had been a past commander as well has having held several other offices and district offices. Graveside services will be conducted by VFW post. Michael Feris will play taps. The Vancouver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Mrs. Weeks and a sister, Mrs. Martha Merritt of Longview.
