OBITUARY - ARCHIE PORTERFIELD Submitted by: Vikki, VGDriver1 at aol dot com Source: "Lewis River News," Woodland, Cowlitz Co., WA, Thursday, 18 Sep 1958 Porterfield Dies From Gas Injuries Reno Rd. resident Archie Porterfield, 42, died last Thursday of injuries received when overcome by sulphur gas Sept. 5 while working at the Longview pulp division of Weyerhauser Timber Co. Services were conducted Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Clifford Bethune officiating. Burial followed at the IOOF Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Woodland Funeral Home. Porterfield was born Oct. 19, 1915 in Holstein, Ia. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the navy 20 years. He had been working for Weyerhauser Timber Co. for the past two years. He is survived by his wife Mary; parents Dr. & Mrs. R.S. Porterfield, Holstein, Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. Joyce Slike, Compton, Calif., and Mrs. Dora Norcutt, of Longview.
