OBITUARY - MARY SCHIEWE Submitted by: Vikki, VGDriver1 at aol dot com Source: "Lewis River News," Woodland, Cowlitz Co., WA, Thursday, 2 Apr 1959 Schiewe Funeral Held Thursday Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Mary Schiewe, who died Mar. 26 in a Mexico City Hospital, were held today (Thursday) at the First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Schiewe came to Woodland with her husband, Ray in 1921 from Montana. They lived here until 1950 when they moved to the Cowlitz County Juvenile Detention Home of which Mrs. Schiewe was matron. Schiewe resigned on Jan. 1 as juvenile officer, a position he held 20 years. They purchased a home at 969 Hoffman St. in Woodland before taking a four-month vacation trip to Mexico. Mrs. Schiewe was a member of the Woodland Presbyterian Church, Woodland Order of the Eastern Star, Washington Probation and Parole Assn., and the Lower Columbia River Peace Officers’ Assn. Besides her husband, she is survived by; a son, Raymond M. of San Anselmo, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Holly Ann Fitzgerald, LaCenter; seven grandchildren; a brother Marshal Whaling, Milwaukie, Wis. The services began at 1:30 p.m. by the Reverends Lee Andrews and Lester Huber. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Vancouver. Woodland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
