OBITUARY - ILA JEAN (MUIR) CHAMBERLAIN Submitted by: Leona Johnson, bell_crazy2000 at yahoo dot com Source: "Longview Daily News" newspaper, December 26, 1982 Ila Jean Chamberlain, one of R.A. Long High School's first graduates and a leader in local art activities, died Dec. 24, 1982, at a local hospital. She was 72. Mrs. Chamberlain had lived in the area since 1926, most recently at 805 North 6th in Kelso. She received her high school diploma in 1927 as a member of R.A. Long's first senior class. Born June 16, 1910, in Calgary, Canada, Mrs. Chamberlain worked as an accountant most of her life, for various local firms, including Knudsen's and Weyerhaeuser. She retired from her job as a Weyerhaeuser tax accountant seven years ago. A Painter, she won numerous prizes for the water color scenes she entered in county fairs competitions. Once president of the Lower Columbia Art Association, she also was active in the Southwest Washington Water Color Society. Survivors include her husband Floyd; her mother, Stella Muir of Clatckanie; a daughter Nancy Kling of Longview; a son William Call of Longview; a sister Hazel Cramer of Clatckanie; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, neices and nephews. Memorial services will be tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Ditlevsen-Moore Funeral Home with Dr. Gene Smith officiating.
