"Jerry " Daggy, 67, of Kelso, died Jan 29, 2002, at St. John Medical Center. He was born Aug 21, 1934, to Lawrence and Midge Daggy and lived in Vader until his parents bought Omar's Cafe and moved to Kelso. He graduated from Kelso High School in 1954, Mr Daggy served in the Army with its occupation forces in Germany during the early 1950's. He later worked for Longview Fibre Co., doing various jobs, including train crew and heavy equipment operator. He retired in the mid 1980's. He was athletically gifted at football, baseball, and fast pitch softball. He played catcher for Pietro's fast pitch softball team, which dominated its league in the 1960's and was dubbed "Mr Hustle" by Seattle sportswriters. He contributed to the construction of Tam O'Shanter baseball field. He had a positive outlook and a strong sense of personal accountability. He is survived by three sons, Jerry D. "Jay" Daggy of Castle Rock, Jeffery Wait Daggy of Spokane, and Lance Evan Daggy of Kelso; former spouse, Deloris Wright of Kelso; a brother, Joseph Daggy of Kelso; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Dalh-McVicker Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southwest Washington Agency on Aging, P.O. Box 539, Kelso, Wa. 98626, which assisted him in maintaining a high degree of independence and personal freedom in spite of his physical limitation in later years.
