He was a member of the Kelso Elks lodge and members of the lodge will have charge of the rites. The services will be held in the Elks temple. The Smith funeral home is in charge. Born at Ladu, now part of Longview, Howard had spent all of his life in Cowlitz county. For 22 years before that he worked for the Hammond Lumber company building ocean going log rafts for that company. Survivors are his wife, Ina Norstrom Howard and a daughter Bessie Howard of Stella; two sons, Bert A., of Longview and Lester F. Howard of Rainier, two brothers, Walter of Stella and Bert R of Carrolls; three sisters, and his father, Daniel Franklin Howard of Long Beach, Calif.
