Hathcoat, a longtime residential and commercial painter, died of a stroke Sunday in his Northeast Portland home. He was 60. A memorial service was Thursday in Woodland Park Chapel. Burial was in Cowlitz View Memorial Park in Kelso, Wash. Born Jan. 3, 1932, in Bokchito, Okla., he was raised in Oklahoma and moved to Longview, Wash., at the age of 12. He had lived in the Portland area since 1962. Mr. Hathcoat had worked as a painter for more than 30 years. He had worked for C. Schiewe and Associates for the past 13 years. His wife, Jeannette Hathcoat, died in 1978. Survivors include his daughter, Karen McKenzie, and his sons, David and Bud, all of Portland; brother, Clyde of Caddo, Okla.; sisters, Cleta Bridges of Clovis, N.M., and Billie Heiskell of Dalhart, Texas; special friend, Lucile Reznick of Portland; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Oregon Stroke Clubs Association.
