Mahaffey, 78, of Kelso died Dec. 29, 1998, at a local nursing home. She was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Lewistown, Mont. to Fred and Eltie (Welsh) Rowland, and moved to Kalama in 1937. She was a graduate of Kalama High School. She and Buster Mahaffey were married in 1945. Mrs. Mahaffey was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening, crossword puzzles and all sports. Her husband died in 1997. She was also preceeded in death by two brothers, Fred and Russell Rowland, and a sister, Laura Zeisman. Survivors include four brothers, Robert Rowland of Kelso, Frank Rowland of Amboy, Wash., James Rowland of Bellingham, and Melvin Rowland of Seattle; and five sisters, Jessie Johnson of Castle Rock, Irene Davis of Bend, Ore., Clara Osbeck of Seattle, Juanita Saylor of Sweetgrass, Mont., and Eltie Ross of Clear Lake, S.D. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. saturday at Dahl-McVicker Funeral Home. The service will conclude at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
