OBITUARY - JESSIE RUTH (ROWLAND) JOHNSON Submitted by: Leona Johnson, bell_crazy2000 -at- yahoo -dot- com Source: "The Daily News", Longview, Cowlitz Co., Washington Jessie Ruth Johnson, 84, of Castle Rock, died Jan. 18, 2003, at St Johns Medical Center. She was born March 16, 1918 in Lewistown, Mont. to Fred W. and Eltie (Welsh) Rowland. She moved to the local area in 1937, and graduated from Kalama High School in 1939. Mrs Johnson was a homemaker who placed her family above all else. She loved crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was an accomplished seamstress, and a member of the "Just a Mere Club", in Castle Rock for more than 50 years. She married V. Ellsworth "Pete" Johnson on Dec 23, 1939. He survives her at home. Also surviving her are a son Billy L. Johnson of Castle Rock; three brothers, Robert R. Rowland of Kelso, James Rowland of Bellingham, and Melvin Rowland of Seattle; two sisters, Juanits Saylor of Shelby, Mont., and Irene Davis of Bend, Or.; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Frank Rowland, Russell Rowland, and Fred Rowland; and four sisters, Eltie Ross, Violet Mahaffey, Laura Zeisman, and Clara Osbeck. A graveside servics will be held at noon Thursday at Whittle-Hubbard Cemetery in Castle Rock, with Don Sheldon officiating.
