Jackson, 88, of 1529 Third Ave., Longview, died Aug 11, 1996, in a Longview nursing home. The descendent of early Cowlitz County pioneers, he was born April 16, 1908, in Portland to Parde and Mellie L. (Davis) Jackson, and graduated from Castle Rock High School in 1927. In 1932 he graduated from Ellensburg Normal School (now Central Washington University) and completed his graduate studies at the University of Oregon. During the Great Depression, he was a first sergeant with the Civilian Conservation Corps in charge of office personnel. During World War II, he was a personnel consultant in the Army. He later taught school in Longview and The Dalles, Ore, then worked in the timber industry, from which he retired in 1967. Well-versed in local history, he wrote five books about history of northern Cowlitz County and was an advisor and historian for the Castle Rock Exhibit Hall. He was a member of the Cowlitz Count Historical Society, American Legion, and Castle Rock Eagles. He leaves a brother, Lewis Jackson of Longview, and a sister, Frances Bergevin of Salem, two sisters, Beryl Holten and Elba Klitzki, preceded him in death. At Mr Jackson's request, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date. Cascade Northwest Funeral Chapel is in charge.
