"Pioneer Woman Resident of Cowlitz County Dies"

Kelso, Tuesday, Aug. 18.---Mrs. Elsie Johnson, aged 83, who died at Portland,
Ore., Saturday, was one of the early residents of Cowlitz County.  The family
came to Monticello to live in 1869 and resided there until 1880, when removal
was made to Newaukum Prairie, near Chehalis.  There the family lived many years.
Mrs. Johnson's husband, Ira Johnson, died many years ago.  She is survived by
two daughters, Mrs. Adelia Hylander and Mrs. Union Kilborn of Portland; five
grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Mrs. Emma Smith of this city is a
sister.
