"Gus" Morant, 78, of Longview, died July 2, 1999, at St. John Medical Center in Longview. He was born August 28, 1920, in Mandan, North Dakota, to Ferdinand and Marie (Zueger) Morant, and moved to the local area in 1930. He was the owner/operator of Gus' Mobile Station in West Kelso for many years, retiring in 1979. Mr. Morant served in the Navy Reserve and served in the Army throughout World War II. He was a member of the disabled American Veterans and Longview American Legion and was a former member of the Longview Eagles, Cowlitz Valley Moose, and Long Beach Elks. He enjoyed sunshine, playing cards (especially pinochle and pan), spending time with his family and friends, and taking trips to Arizona. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Alta R. "Babe" Morant of the home; three daughters Marcia A. Hamm of Kelso, Margaret E. "Peggy" Morant of Centralia, and Marie A. Froid of Longview; two sons Michael A. Morant of Kelso and Maurice A. "Tony" Morant of Laguna Hills, California; 10 grand children, one great grandson; and numerous nieces and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Tuesday at the Kelso First United Methodist Church with Rev Robert D. Henre officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1, Longview, Washington; the American Diabetes Association, Olympia, Washington; or the Kelso First United Methodist Church, Kelso, Washington. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Columbia Funeral Service.
