OBITUARY: RAYMOND LEWIS FLESHMAN Submitted by: Leona Johnson, bell_crazy2000 -at- yahoo.com Source: "The Daily News", Longview, Cowlitz Co., Washington. 18 Aug 2000 Raymond Lewis Fleshman was a quiet man who served as chaplin to God fearing motorcyclists. He was born on July 23, 1915 in Promise, Ore., to Lewis M. and Nellie M. (Phillips) Fleshman. He died Aug 16, 2000 at the age of 85 at Hospice Care Center. In 1924 his father was killed while clearing land for their home with a team of horses. He was 9 at the time and being the eldest of the four children, became the man of the house. He was educated in a one room school house before attending Baker Business College for a year. The family moved to Colton, Ore. in 1935, and then to the Toutle area in 1944. He bought a farm and ran his own farm spraying business. He also hauled red rock and drove a school bus for many years, caring for his mother until her death in 1974. Donations made in her name contributed to the new pews in the Toutle Lake Community Bible Church. Mr. Fleshman was an active member in the church for 50 years and played a large part in its construction. He earned his degree in ministry via satellite. Pastor Pace describes him as a loving loyal friend who cared about the community and its children. He was active in the church's Vacation Bible School, the Good News Program and was recently appointed a church elder. Family and friends say he loved the Lord and enjoyed serving him. He never married, he enjoyed the open road and served as permanent chaplin of the Eternal Rider Chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. He rode his motorcycle to rallies throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada. He was an avid photographer and had a darkroom in his home, and also taught photography. Survivors include a brother Ronald Fleshman of Puyallup; two nieces, Maxine Starcher and Julie Ray, both of Castle Rock; and two nephews, Dale Fleshman of Puyallup, and David Fleshman of Iowa. He was preceded in death by a sister Edythe Hurst and a brother Herbert Fleshman. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Toutle Lake Community Bible Church with Pastor Pace officiating. The viewing will be held from 10 a., to 5 p.m. Friday at Hubbard Funeral Home in Castle Rock.
