OBITUARY: ETHYLE (TAYLOR) OYSTER Submitted by: Linda Henson (Mullins), me@lindakellie.com Source: Newspaper clipping; Jan. 8 1971 Ethyle Oyster dies at 73 Mrs. Ethyle Oyster, widow of the late Byron Oyster and a native of Kelso died Friday in a Portland nursing home. She was 73. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Ditlevsen-Moore Chapel with the Rev. Donald Irwin officiating. The Oysters owned a farm on the banks of what is now Lake Sacajawea in the early 1920s. They sold the farm to the Long-Bell Lumber Co. and it became a densely populated residential area. The original farm house still stand and is lived in. Mrs. Oyster was born Sept. 24 1897 in Kelso and lived most of her life in Cowlitz County. She was a member and past matron of the Kelso O.E.S. No 98 and she was a member of the Duaghters of the Nile, Zora chapter. In recent years, Mrs. Oyster had lived in Tacoma. Her late husband was a long time employee of the Weyerhaeuser Co. Survivors include one son, Bryon Jr. of Tacoma; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Erlandson of Beaverton, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Smith of Tacoma and Mrs. Nellie Dixon of Longview; siz grandchildren and six brothers, including Earl Taylor of Longview, Bill and Frank Taylor of Kelso.
