OBITUARY - SOPHIA (WADE) PEA Submitted by: Linda Henson (Mullins), Source: Newspaper Clipping, 3 Oct 1911 Funeral Held From Family Residence yesterday Afternoon. "Grandma" Pea, after a long life of usefulness, passed away at the family home in this city Tuesday afternoon, October 3. The funeral was held from the residence yesterday afternoon, Rev. F. Claude Stephens, pastor of the Christian church, conducting the services. The remains were followed to their last resting place in the I.O.O.F cemetery by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives. Sophia Wade was born in Ohio April 27, 1832, and was married at Terra Haute, Indiana, November 18, 1849, to William Pea, who died April 26,1874. Mrs. Pea came to Cowlitz county March 17, 1889, and has resided in Kelso since that time. Besides 35 grand-children and 67 great grand-childrens, deceased leaves the following children to mourn her loss: Nathan Pea of Ariel, Wash., Mrs. Sarah Vaughn of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs Pearlina Marks of Strawn, Kansas, Willis Pea of Pendleton, Oregon, Daniel Pea of Gridley, Kansas, Isaac Pea and Mrs. Melissa Jane Day of Kelso, John Pea of Strawn, Kansas, Oliver (Fred) and Thomas (Benton) Pea of Kelso. William Pea, a son, died years ago. "Grandma" Pea was of the old school; of a kind and lovable disposition and ever ready to lend a hand where assistance was needed. She was well known throughout the country and her loss will be deeply felt by the community.
