30. “James M. Griggs,” The Daily Chronicle, Centralia, Lewis Co., Washington, Monday, 15 Mar 1954, p. 4 (editorial page).
There are some men who are spectacular in every thing they do and are known by large numbers of people. Others go through life quietly, never creating much excitement, making friends gradually, but keeping every friend they ever make. Such a man was James M. Griggs.

Jim, as he was called by a large number of friends, was a quiet, sincere sort of man who had positive ideas, but these were not formed on the spur of the moment. He sought to learn what was right and, when he had so decided, he did not change.

He was conservative, honest, dependable, and a gentleman. Those who knew him well respected him for these sterling characteristics and they were proud to be one of his friends.

Jim was sincere and active in his church beliefs. Probably his church monopolized the greatest amount of his activities outside of his business.

In his death Lewis county has lost a good and valuable citizen.
