Here are our 'mystery photos'. A mystery in that we have a couple, but each posing with another person. We think because of the backdrop, and the loaner hat and scarf both women wear, it was at a fair or carnival.
The non-spouse pair are brother and sister from the Anderson family of Clark Co. [Hazel Dell] but so many of the 14 Anderson kids looked very similar, no one living here knows for certain who.
These are tintypes. My Strong and Anderson ancestors knew each other fairly well and some were in-laws. As my late Dad, Ed Gardner, noted, they are "pulling something on us" here, although I disagree as to which Anderson the girl is. The Strongs, we are certain of.
The photo on the left is Amelia [Thiel] Strong with one of the Anderson boys, Dad thought to be George. George was always known as "Jack" Anderson, [from one of his middle names, Jackson]. However, comparing facial features, I believe this was actually Charles H. Anderson.
The photo on the right is Solomon C. Strong with (I think) my G-Grandmother Marilla. Dad had thought it was her sister Kate, but Kate's nose was flatter. I think Dad was influenced by seeing his Grandmother so old for so many years. From the family portraits, I think this was Marilla. On the other hand, he actually knew all these people!
Charles was the oldest living Anderson boy and Marilla the oldest girl. They would have been closer in age to Sol and Amelia.
In any case, they aren't 'couples' because Amelia and Sol were married. Or perhaps not yet?
