C. P. Canon, father of the Canon boys of this city, died at the house of his son in Centralia Wednesday. Several months ago, his wife died and at his great age, Mr. Canon was unable to stand the shock. Death was caused as much by grieving over his wife as anything else. This makes the third death that has occurred in the Canon family in the last six months, as Mrs. Geo. D. Canon, a daughter-in-law of C. P. Canon, also died recently.

The funeral services were held on Thursday, from the M.E. church, Rev. F. S. Pearson officiating. The interment was made in the Washington, Lawn cemetery. Rev. H. W. Thompson assisted in the funeral services.

Mr. Canon was a veteran of the civil war serving for 11 months with Second Volunteer Cavalry of Nebraska, and was a member of the G.A.R., although he had not affiliated with the local organization. He was born in Mansfield, Penn. in 1829, his parents being Stillman and Sallie Canon. He was married in Galena, Ill., to Fannie McLaughlin. He was the father of seven children of whom Geo. D. Canon, H. E. Canon, A. N. Canon, W. W. Canon reside in Centralia and are prominent citizens of this city. He came to Washington in March, 1892.
