"McMurphy Funeral Rites"
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Cattermole Funeral Home in Winlock for D. W. McMurphy, Vader pioneer who died Thursday morning of heart trouble. He had been in poor health the past few years. Mr. McMurphy was born in Shautauqua county, N. Y., November 17, 1850. He was married in Poontoosic, N. Y., to Miss Amelia Herwig 47 years ago. Three sons were born to them, Walter and Roland, who live here, and Harold, who died of illness contracted while in the service. In his earlier life Mr. McMurphy took quite a prominent part in politics, serving Lewis county in the state legislature in 1893-94. He was several times mayor of Vader and also served as school director. He was a member of Little Falls Lodge, F. & A. M., Ella Chapter O.E.S. and Vader I.O.O.F. Besides his widow and two sons he is survived by four grandchildren and four brothers, Bert M. McMurphy of Silver Lake, Kan., C. C. McMurphy of Casa Grande, Ariz., C. E. McMurphy of Mullen, Ida., and Reade McMurphy of Oklahoma.
Rev. Wm. Plowman of the Evangelical church delivered the sermon at the chapel. A soloist sang "When I Leave This World Behind" and "Asleep in Jesus." Burial in the Little Falls cemetery at Vader was conducted by the Masonic order, of which he had been a member for many years. F. M. Hancock of Winlock delivered the burial service.
