Mrs. Henry Knowles Dies.

Mrs. Henry Knowles, 51, well known and highly respected resident of Drew's prairie, died early Sunday morning at St. Vincent's hospital at Portland, following a major operation from which she was unable to rally. Although she had been ill several weeks her death came as a shock to her wide circle of friends locally and at Winlock, in both of which places she was active in community affairs. Elizabeth Carr Knowles was born in April 1880, in Sonora, Calif. She came to Napavine with her parents when three years of age and had spent almost half a century in Lewis county. She was married to Henry Knowles, prominent Drew's prairie farmer, in 1902. Mrs. Knowles was president of the Toledo Woman's club the past two years and was also guardian neighbor of the Neighbors of Woodcraft at Winlock. Besides the widower, she is survived by a daughter, Miss Milbur Knowles; three sons, Ray and Herbert of Drew's prairie and Leslie of Toledo; a sister, Mrs. Mary Tuffree of Napavine; and two grandchildren.

There was a large attendance at the funeral of Mrs. Knowles, which was held at the Cattermole parlors in Winlock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Levi Smith of the Baptist church officiated. Trillium Circle, N. of W., was in charge of the graveside services at the Winlock cemetery.
