FORMER RESIDENT OF COUNTY PASSES
CHEHALIS, Dec. 8 - Mrs. Eliza Bernier, 78, died recently at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Annie Springsteen at Big Lake, Wash. She was born in Indiana in 1852, coming to Lewis county when a child. Her father, Marcel Bernier, was one of Lewis county's earliest white settlers, being a member of the early Hudson Bay company, which had its headquarters on Cowlitz Prairie. Previously he had taken a donation land claim near Walla Walla. Mrs. Bernier lived on Newaukum Prairie, severn miles southwest of Chehalis, from 1871 to 1920, when she moved to Big Lake. Another daughter, Mrs. Nellie Sandstrom, lives at Oakland, Cal.; a son, M. Bernier, at Los Angeles.
