Frank Pumphrey, aged 86 years, a Civil war veteran and one of the few remaining member of Phil Kearney G.A.R. Post at Toledo, was found dead in bed at his farm home near Vader early Tuesday morning. He lived alone and enjoyed excellent health for his years, but had complained Monday evening to his son, George Pumphrey. He was found dead by his daughter, Mrs. Stella Lambert, Tuesday morning, apparently from heart failure. Near surviving relatives are the son and daughter named; also two other sons, William Pumphrey of Olequa and Fred of Portland; and two other daughters, Mrs. Blanche Medlock of Kelso and Mrs. Louise LeGarde of Tacoma. Sudden or violent deaths have been numerous in the Pumphrey family. A daughter, Mrs. May Olsen, died a few months ago at Tenino of heart failure; a son was killed in a logging accident, a grandson was killed a year ago in a railroad accident and another daughter died of apoplexy. Mr. Pumphrey's body was removed to Cattermole's at Winlock, pending funeral arrangements.
