Mossyrock Garden Club Takes First on Flower Show Entries

The Mossyrock Garden Club came in First in the judging for club entries in the Southwest Washington Fair flower show and arrangement exhibits, closely followed by the Town and Country Garden Club.

Mrs. Ray Ellingson, floral division superintendent, reported that the judges didn’t award a third place, but recorded Fords Prairie and Home Beautiful Garden Clubs in a tie for fourth.

Among individuals, residents of Centralia, Tacoma, Longview, Oakville, Rochester and Chehalis shared top honors.

The best chrysanthemum award went to Verna McNeil, Centralia. The best gladiolus award went to Eugene J. Farmer, Tacoma; best dahlia to Mrs. V. R. LaFountain, Longview; best picture boxes, in order, Mrs. K. Blechschmidt, Oakville; Mrs. J. R. James, Rochester; Mrs. Max Chaney, Chehalis.

Blue ribbon winners in the garden flowers section 1, included: asters, Mrs. Wayne Lowe, Centralia; calendula, Mrs. Max Chaney, Chehalis: carnations, Verna McNeil, Centralia; daisies (both classes) Mrs. George Betts, Rochester; delphinium, Mrs. Ted Teitzel, Chehalis; fuschia, Mrs. G. W. Padham, Centralia; lily, Mrs. George Betts, Rebecca Sorrell, both Rocester, and Mrs. Emil Rosselli, Chehalis.

Also: marigolds, Ernie White, Toldedo, and R.H. Harnishfeger, Chehalis: nasturtiums, Mrs. Cecil Hayes, Chehalis; pansy, Mrs. Herman Schwartz, Chehalis; pentstemon, Mrs. R. F. Eugene Farmer, Tacoma, swept the blue ribbon series in gladiolus for Section 3, with other blue ribbon winners in the section listed as Millie Caldwall, Toledo; Rueben Raschke, Chehalis; Mrs. Robert Anderson, and Mrs. Robert Wall, both Bucoda.

In Section 2 Dahlias, blues were won in the A and B size in formal decorations by Mrs. M. J. Barber, Chehalis; Ellen Gans, Winlock; Mrs. Don Long, Ajlune; Mrs. Vern LaFountain, Longview, and from Centralia: Mrs. John Daniells, Mrs. R. F. Bickford.

For informal decorative A and B sizes, blues were won by Mrs. Barber, Mrs. Bickford, Mrs. Long, Mrs. H. Grisivald, Oakville; Mrs. Fred Loy, Centralia; Emile Reynoldson, Centralia.

Straight cactus winners. A and B size dahlias, included: Mrs. Long, Helen Griear, Mossyrock; Mrs. LaFountain, Judy Greeley; Mrs. Bickford, Semi-cactus winners included Mrs. LaFountain, Mrs. Bickford, Mrs. C. B. Cole, Centralia.

Also in dahlias, incurved cactus winners in A and B sizes included Mrs. Bickford, Mrs. Long, Mrs. LaFountain, Mrs. Grisivald; miniatures, Mrs. Bickford, Mrs. G. Padham, Centralia; Mrs. LaFountain; miniatures, any cactus Mrs. Bickford, Mrs. Long.

Ruffled, camdllia and ballerina, Mrs. Herman Schwarz, Chehalis and Mrs. Bickford, and Mrs. Arnold Anderson; picotee camellia, Mrs. Herman Schwartz, Chehalis.
