"Geo. E. Smith, Pioneer of 48 Years, Dies Wednesday"

The death of George E. Smith, who had resided 48 years in Lewis county occurred Wednesday night at his Chehalis home, following a long illness. Mr. Smith was 66 years of age. He had engaged in farming many years, later being employed over a long period with the forest fire service and more recently as deputy sheriff under Edward Deggeller. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret Smith; 2 sons, Ellsworth Smith of Knab and Allen of Chehalis; four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Sellsch of Monticello, Ind., Miss Iola Smith of The Dalles, Ore., Mrs. Mary Withrow of Centralia and Mrs. Dora Ellen Lee of Hillsdale, Wis.; also two sisters, Mrs. Ida Lathrop and Mrs. Ola Whipple who live in Illinois. Rev. E. L. Keechley of the Christian church will officiate at the funeral, which will be held at 2 pm. tomorrow, Saturday, at the John W. Boone Mortuary.
