"Funeral of Winlock Pioneer is Held Yesterday"

Gordon Sweany, aged 84 years, one of Winlock's best known pioneers, died here Monday evening. He had lived in Lewis county 44 years, most of the time at Winlock, where he had been prominent in various ways. Deceased was a Civil war veteran, having served in Company G, 67th Indiana volunteers, and was a lifelong member of the Baptist church. His widow, Sarah E. Sweany, whom he married 59 years ago; one duaghter, Mrs. Eva Eddy of Brigham, Utah; and three sons, A.E. Sweany of Benton City, C.H. of Curtis and Ray G. of Winlock survive him. A military funeral was held under American Legion auspices at the Winlock Baptist church at 2:30 pm. today, Reverend Pierce officiating. Burial was in charge of L. R. Cattermole in the Winlock cemetery.
