H. H. Darrah Dies At Winlock Sunday

Winlock, Dec. 3. - Howard H. Darrah, former deputy United States marshal at Nome, Alaska, and later for some years deputy sheriff for Lewis county, died Sunday at his home, following a few days' illness of pneumonia. He located here originally in 1888 and was one of the city's best known and highly respected citizens. Mr. Darrah was a past master of the local Masonic lodge, a member of the county past masters' association and past patron of the Eastern Star. He was 62 years of age. During the early days of the Alaska gold rush he spent many years at Nome and in other portions of that northern country. He returned to Winlock in 1914 since which time he had resided here permanently. Surviving relatives are the widow, Mrs. Amelia Darrah; two daughters, Misses Sidney and Helen Darrah, and a son, John Darrah; a brother, George Darrah; also a sister, Mrs. Maude Bise of Ephrata, Wash. The body was cared for at the Cattermole Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held yesterday. Rev. Levi J. Smith of the Baptist church officiated. The Masonic lodge was in charge. Burial was in the local cemetery.
