"John Schwartz Goes to Reward; Respected Lewis County Man Dies Sunday"

John Schwartz died at his home on Crego hill, southwest of Chehalis, early Sunday morning, aged 86 years. Mr. Schwartz came to Lewis county with his family in 1887 and took up a homestead on Crego hill, where he had made his home ever since. His wife died within recent years. The deceased was born at Tyrol, Austria, and was a sterling type of the foreign born who have settled in the Pacific Northwest, gone onto the timbered land, worked out a home and reared a splendid family. Lewis county owes much of its great progress and development along agricultural lines to such sturdy pioneers as John Scwartz and his wife, and to the industrious family that they raised.

He is survived by seven sons and three daughters as follows: Raymond, Louis and Joe Schwartz of Chehalis; Frank of McCleary; John Jr., Ludwig and Bert of route 4, Chehalis, and Mrs. Seb Heinricher of route 5, Chehalis; Mrs. John Battiste of Route 5, Chehalis; and Mrs. Philip Becker of The Dalles, Ore. There are also 43 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Sticklin Mortuary pending funeral arrangements.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Chehalis Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Father McGrath officiating. Burial was at Claquato.
