Mrs. A. C. Winters died Friday morning of last week after weeks of suffering with cancer of the breast. A painful lump in her breast first appeared last March and in April she went to San Francisco where a specialist cut it out but, as often happens, all of the roots of the cancer were not reached and it broke out again worse than ever. For two months she had been confined to her bed and death came as a relief. She was a most estimable woman of lovely Christian character. Saturday afternoon the funeral was held, Rev. Hartley officiating and a large crowd being in attendance.
The deceased was 45 years old and for the past 15 years had been a resident of either South Bend, Chehalis or Bay Centre. She was one of the pioneer members of the South Bend Methodist church.
She was the oldest daughter of Joseph Gracey and wife of Bay Centre, who survive her. Beside her husband she leaves five children: Ivan of Portland, Elmer of Bellingham, Emma, Ursula and Alice. One child, Bertha, died three years ago. She leaves, also, the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. J. P. Goodpasture of Hood River, Oregon, Mrs. Dan Louderback of Willapa, Mrs. William Grienier and Mrs. C. O. Rhoades of Bay Centre, H. A. Gracey of South Bend and Robert Graces of Bay Centre.
