Mrs. Lena Jacobson, aged 73 years, died Sunday morning at a local hospital following a stroke. Deceased was born November 1, 1863, at Helgaland, Norway, and came to Portland from Norway in 1884. She had lived at Alpha the last 51 years. When she settled there only trails were in existence. Entrance to the district being made by ox team. They built their home alongside the old trail that led to the trading post at Napavine. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and Alpha Grange No. 154. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank Mattox of Anaheim, Calif., and Mrs. Clyde Dewala of Longview; six sons, Albert, Ole, Richard and Clarence all of Onalaska, Peter of Tacoma and Melvin of Longview. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10:30 am, at the Sticklin and Sons Mortuary, Rev. D. W. McQuiston officiating; interment in the Alpha cemetery.
