"Mrs. Mary A. Stamm, Lewis Pioneer, Dies Tuesday"

Another pioneer of Lewis county answered the last call Tuesday, December 7, 1937, when after a brief illness Mrs. Mary A. Stamm died at the home of her son, Jesse R. Imus, in Chehalis. Mary A. Nerber was born at Lockport, N.Y., September 15, 1850, being over 80 years of age at the time of her death. Until she was 18 she lived at Cambria, N.Y., then moved to Albion, Mich., where she was married to Chas. W. Imus. J. R. Imus is the only living one of six children born to them. Mr. and Mrs. Imus came to Lewis county from Michigan, December 31, 1888, settling in Lincoln creek district, where Jesse Imus was born. The father served as assistant postmaster and later postmaster at Meadow postoffice, and following the death of Mr. Imus, in 1897, Mrs. Imus seceded him as postmistress, and the office was moved a mile north to their homestead in Thurston county. Later the office was discontinued with the advent of mail delivery. Later Mrs. Imus married Leonard Stamm, a pioneer of Lincoln creek, and later moved to Newaukum hill, three miles south of Chehalis. Mr. Stamm died in 1914, since when Mrs. Stamm made her home in Chehalis with her son, Jesse. A coincidence is that Mrs. Margaret Neville, mother of Mrs. Imus, and who also lived at the Imus home, and Mrs. Stamm, had the same birthday dates, September 15, 1850, and both being of the same exact age. Funeral services will be held this Friday afternoon at 2:30, at the Sticklin chapel, Rev. H. E. Gordon officiating; interment under direction of Sticklin Mortuary at Greenwood Memorial park.
