"Mrs. Mary Grenier, Cowlitz Pioneer, Dies"

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Holy Rosary church, Tacoma, for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Grenier, 77, who died Thursday in that city, where she had lived the past sixteen years. Mrs. Grenier was a former pioneer of Lewis county, coming to Cowlitz prairie with her parents 67 years ago. She was a sister of the late Charles and Abel Henriot, prominent residents of the Cowlitz district; also of the late Mrs. John E. Manley of Tacoma; Mrs. Adele Rigney of Lakeview; and Sister Rose of St. Vincent's hospital, Portland. One daughter, Mrs. August von Boecklin of Tacoma; and three sons, Otis E. Grenier of Hammett, Ida.; Waldorf E. Grenier of Bellingham; and Edward G. Grenier of Tacoma; and twelve grandchildren also survive the deceased. Mrs. Grenier was born at Muscatine, Ia., December 2, 1854, being the eldest child of Mrs. and Mrs. Joseph (Marie Rose) Henriot. Her parents crossed the plains in 1850 with a covered wagon, living for a time at Vancouver, before locating on Cowlitz prairie. She was married at Cowlitz to Louis Grenier of Chippewa Falls, Wis., the family being well known on Cowlitz. Rev. Father Mark Weichman officiated at the funeral. Burial was at Tacoma.
