Mrs. Rowland Smith, a pioneer resident of Lewis county, and the last of the pioneer residents of Winlock, passed away, at the age of 85 years, at her home Saturday morning, April 14. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the family residence under the direction of Leland Cattermole. Margaret Snyder was born in Pennsylvania, November 11, 1837, where she was married in 1859 to Rowland Smith, who passed away four years ago, and with whom she lived for 60 years. In 1877 they left Pennsylvania for the Texas frontier, traveling from there by prairie schooner across the plains, arriving in Winlock in 1879.

Deceased is survived by six children: Mrs. Jennie Sargent and Mrs. C. A. Randt of Winlock, Mrs. A. Donahoe of Chehalis, Mrs. Tillie Langhorne and Miss Sadie Smith of Seattle, and Harry A. Smith of Arizona; one sister, Mrs. Matilda Bechdel, and a brother, T. A. Snyder, both of Pennsylvania.
