Mrs. Maria Zeek died at her home on Third street, Chehalis, Sunday, October 30, 1921.

While yet a young girl in her teens, Mrs. Zeek moved to Canada from Great Britain and a little later came to the United States, where, in 1877, she was married to William B. Osgood at Lewiston, Maine. The family afterward settled at Methuen, Mass. Of this union came four children, three sons and one daughter. The daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Marian Carleston of Alameda, Calif., was present at the funeral, leaving for Chehalis immediately the sad tidings reached her of the death of her mother. The sons, living so far away, could not be present. They are: Richard P. Osgood of Windsor, Vt., John D. Osgood of Haverhill, Mass., and Weston Osgood of New Haven, Conn.

After the death of Mr. Osgood she later married William Jubb, who lived but a few years. When her children were grown and providing for themselves she came west and settled at St. Johns, Ore. This was in 1908. In 1912 she was united in marriage to William Zeek of this city and moved with him to his home here, on Third street, where she died at 3:30 pm on October 30, after a brief illness.

In addition to her own children, Mrs. Zeek leaves among other close relatives, ten step-children to mourn her loss. Of these there were present at the funeral, Mrs. Alice Roberts of Mossyrock, Mrs. Nora Thomas of Ellensburg, Mrs. Alpha Peterson of Silver Creek, Mark L. Zeek of Seattle, Mrs. Lucy Jones of Tacoma, and Mrs. Elma Moore of Chehalis, all in the state of Washington.

Mrs. Zeek was a woman of strong Christian character, one who endeared herself to all who had the privilege of becoming acquainted with her. She loved home and was constantly busy with household duties, even of late years when her health was steadily declining. It was always a pleasure to visit there. She was truly a kind-hearted and hospitable woman; a woman that made a good neighbor and a loyal friend; a woman beloved by al who knew her.
