"Unusual Birthday Celebration Held"

An unusual joint birthday celebration was held Saturday at the home of Postmaster J. R. Imus. The occasion was the anniversary of the birthdays of the mothers of both Mr. Imus and Mrs. Imus. Each was born on the same day and year, September 16, 1850. Saturday, surrounded by their children, they observed the 78th milestone of their lives. Each of them is enjoying fairly good health. A bounteous birthday dinner was a feature of the occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Imus, with whom they reside, being hosts.

Mrs. Margaret Neville, mother of Mrs. Imus, was born in Newport county Tipperary, Ireland. She came to the United States in 1869 locating at Plattsmouth, Neb. October 24, 1872, she was married to William Neville. Eight children were born to them, five of whom are living. Mrs. F. L. Mary and William Neville of Oakland, Cal.; Mrs. J. R. Imus and John and Charles Neville of Chehalis. Mrs. Neville has six grandchildren. In 1907 Mr. and Mrs. Neville moved with their family to Chehalis, where he died September 19, 1924.

Mrs. Mary A. Stamm, mother of Mr. Imus, was born at Lockport, N. Y. She lived until 18 at Cambria, N. Y., then moved to Albion, Mich., where she married Charles W. Imus. J. R. Imus is the only one living of six children born of this union. Mr. and Mrs. Imus arrived in Lewis county from Michigan, December 31, 1888, settling soon afterwards on Lincoln creek where Postmaster Imus was born. The father served as deputy postmaster and later as postmaster at Meadow postoffice.

Following Mr. Imus' death in 1897 Mrs. Imus succeeded him as postmaster at Meadow. Later Mrs. Imus married Leonard Stamm, a pioneer of Lincoln creek. Later they moved to Newaukum, three miles south of Chehalis. Mr. Stamm died in 1914, since when Mrs. Stamm has made her home with her son in this city.
