"This is a picture of Orin Nichols, brother of Mary Elizabeth Nichols White Wright (Mrs. George Washington Wright) and his niece, Mary's youngest daughter, Alta Wright Gore (Mrs. Edwin John Gore).
The picture was taken in Seaside in 1914. I don't know if Alta was still living in Lewis County as I do believe they had moved to Castle Rock at some point. However, Mary and George Wright were still living at Salkum in 1914 at the time of his visit.
I wish there was a newspaper clipping regarding his visit to see his sister and her family... In 1914 most of the offspring from the Wright's and the Gore's were still living in Lewis County.
I wish I had more information on Nichols family as we know very little about Mary, other than she was born in Illinois and according to her death certificate, her father's name was John.
Cousin Olive Wright Mills once told me that Orin was a Jeweler. I haven't been able to locate John, Orin and Mary on a census. The only one that would help would be the 1850 census since she was married before 1856 as her son William D. White was born. She was suddenly widowed when her husband ______ White fell through the ice. George married Mary on April 15, 1857 in Iowa.
There is a note on the back side of the picture. I believe the note on the back side of the picture is from Alta Wright Gore's daughter Anna Gore. I had thought she was referring to my great aunt Bertha Gore Wright (Edwin John Gore's sister, my grand mother, Maude Gore Wright is another sister of Edwin's) but that doesn't make sense because the picture was found with Mary Wright Shockley's stuff (another daughter of George & Mary Wright.)"
