"N. L. Strange, Aged 96 Years, Dies Wednesday"

N. L. Strange died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. E. Rice. He was 96 years of age and in 1851 crossed the plains to California from Missouri, where he was born. The trip required six months by ox team. After living some years in California the Strange family moved to Yamhill county, Oregon, where N. L. Strange was married to miss Angeline Dickey. After the Civil war Mr. Strange and family returned to Missouri where they lived three years. Returning to Oregon, they lived at Eugene until 1870, when they moved to Whitman county, where later for many years Mr. Strange engaged in banking at Oakesdale, being one of the best known of eastern Washington's pioneers. Following the death there of Mrs. Strange in 1909, Mr. Strange moved to Walla Walla, where he lived until about ten years ago, since which time he had made his home with Mrs. A. E. Rice at Chehalis. Nine sons and daughters survive Mr. Strange, these being Mrs. A. E. Rice and Mrs. Elizabeth Saindon, Chehalis; Mrs. Halle Pirtle, Los Angeles; Mrs. Laura Conover, Plummer, ida.; Mrs. Rose Scherer, Seattle; George Strange, Mosside, Canada; Clarence Strange, Portland; William Strange, Washtucna, Wash. and Marion Strange, Clatskanie, Ore. There are 30 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Rice home. Rev. W. B. Leonard of the Baptist church officiated, Friday E. C. Fissel will take the body to Oaksdale, where graveside services will be held and burial will be made Friday afternoon.
