O. J. Chase's Life Hangs In Balance At Portland

Alarming reports have come from the Veterans' Hospital at Portland this week regarding the condition of O. J. Chase, Lewis county probation officer and charity commissioner, who went there late in December. Mr. Chase is suffering from a kidney affection. It is stated that there is no hope for his recovery, death being expected within a short time. O. D. Smith went to Portland early this week to see Mr. Chase and his report as to his condition is most unfavorable. Mr. Chase has a wide circle of friends in the county, all of whom will greatly regret the unexpected turn his illness has taken.
