Pitman C. Hargrave, of the firm of Carver & Hargrave of Centralia, died at his home in South Centralia on Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, the cause of his death being typhoid pneumonia. He had been ill about one week and his death was totally unexpected. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock under the auspices of the Masonic order, Rev. O. F. Haskell preaching the funeral sermon at the residence. The Interment took place at the Washington Lawn cemetery.

Mr. Hargrave was one of Centralia's old time residents and one of its most respected citizens. He was a pioneer of the county and of the Pacific coast. Mr. Hargrave first settled in Lewis county on Lincoln creek in 1874, coming here from California. He remained in the county about three years, when he returned to California and remained there several years, when he returned again to his farm on Lincoln creek. About six years ago he sold his farm up the valley and moved to Centralia. Several years ago he entered into partnership with W. H. Carver to do business as feed wholesalers and retailers and the partnership was in effect at the time of his death. He was a member of the Centralia lodge F. & A. M., and of the Chehalis lodge, Eastern Star, the ladies' auxiliary of the Masons. On June 2, 1904, he was married to his second wife, Mrs. Jennie Knapp, of this city. He leaves a son and a daughter by his first wife.

Mr. Hargrave ws 56 years of age and was well known and respected by all who knew him. In his death the citizens of Centralia lose one of their most valued neighbors.
