Roy Hansell Dies As Result Of Auto Accident
Accident Occurs Saturday Evening Near Olympia - Earl Rush Has Broken Hip Injury
Roy Hansell was killed Saturday evening between 6 and 7 o'clock in an auto wreck midway between Olympia and Tenino, on the Pacific highway, when a car driven by Earl Rush skidded on the icy pavement, turned around several times on the roadway and landed against a stump. Rush suffered a broken hip and other injuries and was cared for at an Olympia hospital. A third Chehalis man in the car, James Clampitt, was knocked out for the time and suffered severe bruises but later was able to be brought home, being the least injured of the trio. The men were returning home from a trip to Sound cities at the time. Hansell's neck was broken, according to report at Sticklin's Mortuary here, to which place the body was brought. A passing motorist took Clampitt to Olympia and an auto stage picked up Hansell and Rush and hurried them to the bus station in that city, Hansell dying shortly afterwards. Rush was brought to the St. Helens hospital by ambulance Sunday.
Roy Hansell was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Hansell, well known local pioneers. He had lived here most of his life, excepting for a few years spent in Seattle. He was 41 years of age. Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Darwin Redfield, who lives in Seattle; and a daughter, Miss Marian Hansell of Los Angeles.
Earl Rush is a son of Mrs. T. C. Rush of Chehalis, his father being the late T. C. Rush, former well known local capitalist. He was born here also, and excepting for a few years when he was in business in Seattle, has lived in Chehalis most of his life. Mr. Clampitt is in business here and all are widely known in this city and Lewis county.
Funeral services for Roy Hansell were held at the Sticklin Mortuary Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Stanley G. Logan of the Methodist church officiated. Burial was at Washington Lawn cemetery.
