Funeral services were held at the Catholic church at Cowlitz at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning for Mrs. Marie Rose Sareault, aged 68, wife of John B. Sareault, one of the oldest pioneers of Lewis county. Mrs. Sareault, whose health had been poor for some time past, died at the family home Sunday, March 17. She was born near St. Roche de L'achigan, Montreal, Canada, October 5, 1860. Her maiden name was Marie Rose Major. She and John B. Sareault were married at Sacred Heart Catholic church, Montreal, September 24, 1878. Last fall they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the family home on Cowlitz prairie, where they had resided the past 39 years. In November, 1878, following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Saurault came west and located in Portland, where they resided 15 years.

Mr. Sareault, who is 72 years of age, was born on Cowlitz prairie near the home where he and Mrs. Sareault lived since leaving Portland. His father was one of the earliest settlers in that section. Mrs. Sareault was the mother of 15 children, 10 of whom are living. At the golden wedding anniversary nine of the sons and daughters were present, the only one absent being Mrs. W. J. Steffen of Crofton, Nebr.

Other immediate surviving relatives, in addition to Mr. Sareault and Mrs. Steffen, are four sons, J. E. of Gonzaga university at Spokane, who returned home to attend the funeral; Geo. P., Hector and Joseph of Cowlitz; five daughters, Mrs. A. H. Brooling of Chehalis; Mrs. I. J. Marquis and Mrs. B. J. Hall of Onalaska, Mrs. J. F. Borte and Miss Irene Sareault of Cowlitz; also six brothers, Emilio, George, Edward, Hector, Ovila and John B. Major; and one siter, Augustine Guillbault, all of Montreal City, Canada.

Rev. Father Agedius officiated at the funeral which was directed by L. R. Cattermole of Winlock. Burial was in the historic cemetery at Cowlitz Mission. There was a large attendance of friends and neighbors and was also a profusion of beautiful floral offerings.
