A native of Nisqually valley, between Tacoma and Olympia, where he was born 82 years ago, Rufus Packwookd, a resident of Hanaford valley, where he homesteaded 55 years ago, died at Centralis hsopital Friday. The pioneer was the son of William Packwood, who crossed the plains and settled on the Nisqually bottom in 1844. Packwood lake, well known in eastern Lewis county, was named for the father. The son resided on his farm in the Hanaford until three years ago. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emma A. Packwood; a sister, Mrs. P. E. McElfresh of Redmond, Ore., and a daughter, Mrs. Mabel E. Ogle of Centralia.

Funeral services were held at Centralia Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Sticklin chapel, Rev. J. C. Mergler officiating. Interment was a the Forest Grove cemetery near Tenino.
