Sam Eyle, Cowlitz Tribe Indian, Dies at 107 Years

Sam Eyle, one of the oldest Cowlitz Tribe Indians in Lewis county, died early Saturday morning at his home near Riffe. He was generally believed to be 107 yars(sic) old. Eyle was born near Nisqually but had lived in the county most of his life, the past 55 years in the Cowlitz valley in the Riffe district. The widow, Mrs. Mary Eyle; and three sons, John Napoleon and Phil of Riffe survive the deceased. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Cowlitz Mission, under Catholic auspices. Burial was in the Mission cemetery, directed by the Fissell Funeral Home.
