Toledo Pioneer Dies

Toledo, Oct 23. -- W. A. Eadon, said to be the last of the real old pioneers of this section died here at the home of his only child, Mrs. A. B. Arrington. He was 78. He came to the Northwest across the plains with William West and John Dobson, both deceased, prominent figures in the upbuilding of this section.

Mr. Eadon landed in Chehalis in 1864, and homesteaded the property where now stands the street car barns, and the Superior coal mines. He sold his share in these coal properties to Mr. Rosenthal, who died in Olympia two weeks ago. Mr. Eadon's wife died 20 years ago. He lived most of his life in Chehalis and Toledo, at one time owing a large farm at Toledo, and laying out the section of Toledo east of the Cowlitz river, now known as Eadonia.

Mr. Eadon never lived in a house containing a telephone, an electric light or a bath tub, refusing to change his old pioneer ways.

Rev. Grant Merchant preached the funeral here yesterday, where interment took place.
