Death of M. J. Vaughn
The Buckley Banner gives the following account of the death of M. S. Vaughn of this city, near that place last week:
The remains of H. M. Vaughn were brought to Buckley at an early hour on Thursday morning by B. B. Todd and E. M. Samms, having traveled from the northeast quarter of Section 21, Tp. 19, North, Range 10 East, about 40 miles, since July 5 at 7:30 a.m., the hour of Mr. Vaughn's death.
The three men went into the hills on July 3rd to go to their claims and were in the vicinity of their claims when Mr. Vaughn fell on the trail at the feet of his companions. Mr. Todd and Mr. Samms tried to revive hiim but life was extinct.
The arduous task of bringing out the body was begun and no stop was made on the long and rough trail reaching here about four o'clock yesterday morning. It was a very tedious journey all night in the darkness and also difficult, as it was exceedingly dark in the timber on the narrow and crooked trail.
Mr. Vaughn was about 60 years of age and has a wife, two sons and a daughter. Mr. Vaughn lived in Centralia. He was treasurer of the Elkhorn Mining company of which Mr. W. W. of Buckley is president and general manager.
