I'm looking for information about Major Carroll, who moved to Cowlitz County in late 1860s from DeKalb County, MO. I have some information that says that Carrollton, later Carrolls, WA. was named after him or other family members. I learned through this website that the town was named after a William and Catharine Carroll, though neither registers a hit with any of the names I have so far. I'd be grateful for any additional information on William and Catharine and/or on Major.

McCORKLE/SAVILLE. I will be in the area next month and would like to visit Catlin Cemetery. Would anyone know the location within the cemetery of William Alelxander Lockridge McCorkle and Diana Saville McCorkle (b.ca. 1822, Rockbridge Co., VA)? Is this cemetery open at all times? Any other local sites relating to this family that I could see? Is there an original homestead? My information states that W. McCorkle made his way to the Oregon Territory and took out a donation land claim, naming it Lexington. He supposedly made his first home in the stump of a tree, building a new home in 1868. He served as an official Indian Scout during the Indian Wars and as a Captain in the Oregon Militia. His claim adjoined those of L.P. Smith and Enoch Chapman. If anyone has information that would be helpful and interesting, I would be most appreciative.
