History:

In 1870, Jacob Tippery selected a homestead at the northeast end of Silver Lake, Cowlitz Co., Washington Territory. It was a beautiful hillsite, overlooking the lake, and offering a view of Mt. St. Helens to the east. After Jacob Tippery's death in August, 1872, following an accident incurred while clearing land on the homestead, he was buried on a corner of the Tippery property. The land was then donated by the family for a community cemetery. After his wife, Lucinda, died in 1901, the property was sold out of the family. Then in 1928, it was legally deeded as Silver Lake Cemetery, Inc. Subsequently, parcels of land were donated or purchased.
