Byron Bassett, Civil war veteran, following an illness of two weeks, passed away Wednesday at the soldiers' home at Orting. Mr. Bassett made Chehalis his home for many years and was one of the pioneers of this district. A few years ago he went to Orting, where he made his home most of the time. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Chehalis yesterday afternoon, Rev. J. T. McQueen officiating, the Chehalis lodge of Masons having charge of the burial services. Interment was in Fern Hill cemetery, E. C. Fissel in charge. Deceased is survived by four sons: James of Chehalis, George of British Columbia, Frank of Onalaska and Roy of Raymond; and one daughter, Mrs. R. R. Canterbury of Seattle. Deceased was 79 years of age, and a native of Pennsylvania.
